A fee of AED35 ($9.50) will be charged to passengers using Abu Dhabi airports from July, it has been reported.

The service fee will apply to passengers departing and transiting the emirate’s airports, Arabic newspaper Al Ittihad reported. It will not apply to passengers under the age of two, those transiting on the same flight number and airline crew.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, approved the new charge in Executive Council Resolution No (37) of 2016, said the report.

The charges come two months after Dubai and Sharjah issued AED35 fees on passengers.

Abu Dhabi Airports, the government-owned operator of five airports in the emirate including Abu Dhabi International, will collect the fee from airlines, according to the report.

Passengers departing from Abu Dhabi International are already charged an AED75 ($20.42) service fee and a AED5 ($1.36) security fee.

The airport reported an 8.7% increase in passenger traffic for February 2016.
